The full gameboard for Lisboa

Introduction

Lisboa is a game about the reconstruction of the great Portugese capitol city after a series of terrible 18th Century catastrophes. On November 1, 1755, Lisboa suffered an earthquake of an estimated magnitude of 8.5–9.0, followed by a devastating tsunami and 3 days of raging fires. The city was almost totally destroyed.

The Marquis of Pombal, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, was then the minister of foreign affairs. The King put him in charge of the reconstruction of Lisboa. The Marquis gathered a team of engineers and architects to aid him in this reconstruction.

Lisboa is thus played, in part, on a representational map of the city. During the planning of the downtown re-building project, the type of businesses permitted in each street was pre-determined. The clockmakers and goldsmiths had their street; as did the bookstores and libraries; the tailors and silk vendors; and the toolmakers as well. This all comes into play on the Lisboa gameboard.

Players represent the nobility of Lisboa who will use their influence in the reconstruction and business development of the new city.

In rebuilding the city, players will make use of the Royal Builder, who works with the architects to build Lisboa anew, while the Marquis will provide aid in the development of commerce. The King will provide players with political help in re-opening the beautiful new city. But the true reason you are rebuilding the city is not for greatness, or even fame or fortune. As a nobleman or noblewoman of Lisboa, your primary motivation is the acquisition of Wigs--a most important trading commodity of the Era, and the means of scoring points in the game.

How to play by Gaming Rules!

Rahdo review

The Designer

Hello everyone. I am Vital Lacerda, the designer of Lisboa. I was born in Lisbon 49 years ago, a city I adore and still live in with Sandra, my wife, and my two lovely daughters. I have a masters degree in Marketing and Advertising, and after working in advertising agencies for almost 15 years as an art director, I decided to try my luck as a freelance graphic designer. I've been working like this since 2007. At that same time I also began designing board games, my true and great passion.

Most of all, I consider myself a gamer who had the luck of having a few publishers who believed in my games. I published Vinhos in 2010; CO2 two years later; Kanban in 2014 and the Gallerist in 2015. This year I also did a major re-release of my first game Vinhos--with a great production done by my friends at Eagle-Gryphon Games.  In this new production of Vinhos Deluxe, you can find the original 2010 game as well as a new streamlined version based on 6 years of playtesting by thousands of players all over the world-- including You (I hope).

Fortunately, all my games were well-accepted by enough gamers that they were "successful".  Lisboa will be my 6th big release.  I believe it has the strongest and best-integrated theme of all my games.  It's a game about my town and its reconstruction by the great builders of a bygone era. I hope you will enjoy Lisboa as much you did all the others.

I have a tendency to design "thinking" games because those are the types of games I love to play. A big box game takes a lot of time to design, play test and develop. So when I begin such an endeavor, I always look for a few characteristics that are fun for me in those type of games. They need to be challenging; they need to require deep thinking and difficult decision-making; they must allow great control; and they must involve intense competition and heavy strategy. Those are the games I love to play and design.

I usually start to look for a theme to be the foundation of the game. Strategic thinking inside a game that is supported by a strong theme must always be present. That it is the most challenging thing when designing such a game. My games are usually based in a simple core that offers the player a lot of layers to explore. Lisboa is not an exception to any of this and I hope it gives you the challenge and the fun you are looking for.

I like interconnected mechanisms a lot — pursuing strategies, different complex paths — but I also love to adapt, make tactical moves, and have some randomness in games. I try to avoid luck in longer games. I believe luck should be delivered not by the system, but by player decisions.

I also love to move pieces on a board. That is precisely one of the things I most care about in games. I love moving wood and cardboard over the board, I like to touch, to feel. For me, it makes the game much more dynamic, colorful, and fun. Because of that, my games always deliver to the players loads of great components inside a big heavy box. And you may expect the same in Lisboa. I hope you enjoy playing Lisboa as much as I enjoyed designing it. I really still love playing it! Go to the rules section above, read the rules and take a look at the video. I sincerely hope this is a game for you and your friends. Thank you very much for reading this and for supporting me on this campaign.

Note about Addons

The Vinhos Deluxe game purchased here as addon includes also four KS stretch-goals: Connoisseur, Experts, Islands and Tasting Room expansions.

Shipment

Shipping to Italy costs 7.77 euro. For other world Countries shipping cost will be shown after clicking "Proceed to checkout” button on the cart. Some examples: for UK, France, Spain the cost is 16.91 euro, for Germany 13.55 euro. Retailer shipping cost depends on order size and it's shown on Shipping cost page.

It’s possible to pick-up your copy free of charge at our pickup point in Rome or at the Lucca Comics and Games (Italy).

Games will be shipped from September 2017. In theory, Lisboa could be ready earlier: Eagle-games announced it for July 2017. As with the previous game Eagle-games has suffered some delay we prefer to indicate that shipment will start in September, which is a more realistic goal.

Note: We strongly suggest to specify a telephone number in your profile. This helps a lot with the game delivery. We will use the address specified in your GS account profile at the moment of shipping: this means you can change it as you wish until such date, as we will use the last address provided.

Important notes

Production. A distinction must be made between games printed directly by Giochix or printed by another publisher, that we can be call "indirect".

In the first case we have direct control over the printing procedures and wecanintervene quickly in case ofproblems, solving and adjusting if necessary. In the second casewe can only interact with the publisher that prints the game without having the opportunity to act on the production process.

This means that when the games are printed by us, the shipping date thatweindicated in the draft is fairly safe.Obviously in thiscase there may bedelays, and this should be taken into account, but we are confident of being able to respect the times given.

In the second case, for "indirect" games, the shipment date isonly indicative.Unfortunately it can happen that deliveriessuffer a delay and this must beconsidered before making a purchase. Of course we will inform youimmediatelyif somethingwere to happen.

-> Lisboa is printed by Eagle/Gryphon games. So it is a "indirect" game.

Components. Game specifications and components are to be considered indicative and can be changed during final production.

Project pages. Sometime there can be some little variances between the pages of this project in the different languages. In that case, refer to the project’s English page.

Fairs. It can happen that game shipment is scheduled in a time frame adjacent to a big Fair, like Essen Fair in Germany or Lucca Comics and Games in Italy. Is important to know that we will show/sell the game in these fairs independently of campaign participant shipment status. These Fairs are too important and unfortunately it is not possible to avoid them without destroying the game’s chances to be a success.

Order Cancellation. You can cancel your order within 15 days from your order date contacting us with the Contact form. Within the campaign end is possible to cancel it by clicking the Cancel Order button shown on order page.

Shipments. We ship by postal service or by supported courier (UPS/GLS/SDA)

We reserve the right to separate the contents of an order into different shipments or to merge the contents of different orders in the same shipment to improve the shipment's delivery speed and any required logistics management. If this happens, there will not be any additional cost for you as a customer (nor right to any refund).

Shipments made by courier or by insured the postal service can be tracked and are considered insured.

Shipments made by the postal service are not insured and cannot be traced. While rare it is also possible that a package may be lost (0.1-1%). Insurance option for potal services costs an additional 2-5 Euro depending on the destination.

Courier shipments may take about 3-6 days for EU and US/Canada. Postal service requires about 3-7 weeks for the same locations. Please note that the postal service in the same case can be slow and may suffer several weeks of additional delay. This happens very rarely but it is still a possibility and is out of our control. If you would like a faster deliever or avoid any risk of a long way; pleas use a courier service.

Courier shipment covers against package loss, destruction and package damage. Postal service insurance covers against package loss or destruction. Insurance requires a customer claim when package is delivered, ask to postman.

Please note that we will not reship any game without first having investigated what happened to the first shipment. This can be processed quickly through the courier service option but may require an additional 1-5 weeks through the postal service.

If the game failed to arrive because of your mistake (wrong address, recipient absent, not picking up at courier/postal warehouse, etc.), you will have to pay the additional shipping/warehousing cost to ship/deliver to you the game another time. This cost will also include the return costs of the game. Otherwise, if we made an error, we will send it again to you at our expense. If package is lost or destroyed, we will reship it at our expense only if it was insured.

If you live outside of the European Community; custom's taxes may be added. This usually doesn't happen for boardgames; however, please check your country's legislation as this aspect will not be our responsibility.

We will no longer accept complaints related to this campaign after 12 months from the date of shipment.
