Carthage, about 800 years BCE: Founded as a humble trading post by the Phoenicians, the city quickly grew to an important trade hub where precious goods from all across the ancient world arrived for the market...

In Carthago: Merchants & Guilds, 2 to 4 players represent merchants who attempt to increase their wealth and influence while improving their status within the merchant's guild by loading wares, financing expeditions, and exerting influence in clever ways. This extraordinary card-driven tactical game, of the duration of 90 minutes, demands that you make the right decisions at the right time! The game is completely language-independent and comes in an EnglishGerman and French Edition.

Carthago: Merchants and Guilds is a game that perfectly mixes a card-driven strategy game and a workers placement game together!

Over the course of three decades, in which the players can take a maximum of 5 actions for each one, you must compete to become the most renowned merchant of Carthage, by loading goods, financing warships and by gaining influence with the Traders Guild. The player with the most Victory Points at the end of the game is the winner!



Every player receives a Residence board and a starter hand of Base cards, which will be used as the value to pay for the actions, alongside with the Trade cards, that are far more valuable. Then, taking turns clockwise, each one chooses an action until they all have performed five of them, or until they all have passed. At this point, the decades will change and the players can perform again five actions.

These actions must be paid with Base and Trade cards from your hands, but everytime you want to perform an action that has been already taken by other players, you have to pay more cards, for each player on that action... You must choose your time perfectly right in order to save your valuable cards!

And that's not all! You can use your Ship to trade goods in the distant harbor and use your Warships to complete dangerous expeditions and gain more Trade cards!

The game ends after the third decade. Players now add up their Victory Points. Multiply the number of Guild seats you gained by the number of Ships (both active and inactive) you have; then add the Victory Points your score for each of the Achievement tiles. If you played your cards well, spread your influences over the city and gained power in the Guild you will be the one with the most VPs, and the Winner of the game!
