Sail through the Desert! Saltlands is a post-apocalyptic survival board game taking place in an authentic, low-tech dystopian world plagued by drought.

We are proud to present the preorder of Saltlands by András Drozdy, Gombos Gergely e Gergely Kruppa, published by Antler Game.

We sold here the English version of the game. The game is language independent. It's possible to pay by Paypal, Credit card, Bank wire transfer, Bitcoins. It's also possible to pay by installments with Paypal.

Saltlands is a board game for 1-6 players that lasts about 90-120 minutes. Beside the Classic (semi-coop) game mode, Saltlands can be played in a full cooperative, or in a full competitive mode. Each variant come in different length and difficulty, you can choose the most suitable for you.

Introduction

The Earth has dried out and the civilization with it. Some Survivores have managed to eke out a living on the Saltlands, by using landsails with wheels on these flats. A storm of raiders on gas guzzling machines approach in search of their lost god. Be among the first to escape to have a chance!

The Game

Saltlands is a post-apocalyptic survival board game taking place in an authentic, low-tech dystopian world plagued by drought. With your friends, you are fleeing from invading raiders, leaving your desert home: a plain left behind by a once great ocean, called the Saltlands.

In Saltlands, the first group of players to find and reach an exit point wins, leaving the rest to the Horde. There are no fixed teams, players can decide to co-operate or backstab each other as they see fit. Each player starts the game with a single captain but may increase his crew as the game progresses. Each crew member represents an extra life and an action each turn. Players move with their land sails according to the wind direction: being able to criss-cross slowly upwind or speed in the fastest direction, sailing on a broad reach. Each player can choose which group of raiders to move at the end of their turn until all raiders have moved. This allows players to help each other or force confrontation with the raiders. Players can fight the raiders and take their vehicles as an alternate mode of transport.

  • Flee from waves of invading raiders
  • Use landsails, motorized vehicles and a multitude of weapons to make your escape
  • Explore - the each time different - environment, collect victory items and investigate rumors in hopes of escape
  • Compete or cooperate - who wins and who is left behind?

How you play and whether you survive is up to you: we did our best to create a challenging game with unconstrained player interaction and chair-gripping tension. Find out for yourself!

You can download the English Rulebook (v 2.15) Here. This is not the final version.

Why people love Saltlands

  • Strategic social interactions - You will almost certainly not be able to win this game as a lone wolf. But first player or group of players who win will leave the others to their fate. - you have to be one of them! Choose your friends and stick with them, or betray them at the right moment.
  • Challenging but fair - There are no dice rolls in the game and the movement of the raiders is rather predictable: survival mostly depends on your strategy and who you cooperate with.
  • Replayable and expandable - The desert is different each time you play, and combined with the expansion pack, Saltlands can bring you engaging exploration and surprising moments with every play.
  • Not just a game, also a world - In Saltlands you will find an immersive, authentic desert realm where weapons are exotic, firearms are the remnants of a past age and landsails are ubiquitous. Immersive visuals, a Graphic Novel and some short stories make Saltlands an especially memorable experience. Plastic miniatures help the Raider vehicles come to life.
  • Streamlined, language-independent design - An intuitive system of pictograms and symbols make Saltlands language independent.

Game Mechanics

Mythical destinations - The characters have heard of three mythical locations, where they can possibly make a living in peace away from the raiders. To find the path to one of these locations (exit points) the protagonists follow a trail of rumors exploring the Saltlands. When enough rumors have been revealed the exit points activate. Each time a player finds a rumor he has a choice concerning the exit point locations.

Race to Victory - The first group of players to reach an exit point with the necessary equipment, and clear out the raiders there wins. They escape, and leave the rest to their fate. However, there are no fixed teams; the first player, or players to achieve this goal wins. So players have to decide whom to work with and whom to stab in the back.

Landsails - The hard flat plain of the Saltlands and the prevailing winds provide an excellent terrain for landsails. The game has a simple wind movement mechanic, which follows real sailing principles: Your speed is determined by the strength and direction of the wind. You are sailing the fastest on a broad reach (downwind, but not directly downwind). You can not go directly against the wind, but must zig-zag (tack) to make progress in that direction.

Tough decisions - Decide what to keep and what (or who) to leave behind in the Saltlands. Save helpless souls in the desert and they will aid you during your journey. Or just ditch them when you don't need them anymore. There is only so much space in your vehicle.

Raiders on the hunt - The raiders are following you with gas guzzling machines. They always move towards the nearest target and attack them if they catch up. Each player must activate a type of raider at the end of their turn (one that has not moved yet). Thus they can determine the order in which the different types of raiders move. By choosing which raider to activate they can help or hinder the other players.

Swarming Horde - The Horde of raiders is coming and it seems like there is no escape. More and more raiders join the pursuit as time passes, spawning at the end of of each phase. You must decide when to flee and when to fight the Raiders that are after you. If you kill them you get their equipment and can even use their vehicle, but linger too long and you will be overwhelmed. Find the exit soon or your life is going to be even shorter than expected.

Important notes

Production. A distinction must be made between games printed directly by Giochix or printed by another publisher, that we can be call "indirect".

In the first case we have direct control over the printing procedures and wecanintervene quickly in case of problems, solving and adjusting if necessary. In the second case we can only interact with the publisher that prints the game without having the opportunity to act on the production process.

This means that when the games are printed by us, the shipping date thatweindicated in the draft is fairly safe.Obviously in this case there may bedelays, and this should be taken into account, but we are confident of being able to respect the times given.

In the second case, for "indirect" games, the shipment date isonly indicative.Unfortunately it can happen that deliveriessuffer a delay and this must beconsidered before making a purchase. Of course we will inform youimmediatelyif somethingwere to happen.

-> Saltlands is printed by Antler Games. So it is a "indirect" game.

Components. Game specifications and components are to be considered indicative and can be changed during final production.

Project pages. Sometime there can be some little variances between the pages of this project in the different languages. In that case, refer to the project’s English page.

Fairs. It can happen that game shipment is scheduled in a time frame adjacent to a big Fair, like Essen Fair in Germany or Lucca Comics and Games in Italy. Is important to know that we will show/sell the game in these fairs independently of campaign participant shipment status. These Fairs are too important and unfortunately it is not possible to avoid them without destroying the game’s chances to be a success.

Order Cancellation. You can cancel your order within 15 days from your order date contacting us with the Contact form. Within the campaign end is possible to cancel it by clicking the Cancel Order button shown on order page.

Shipments. We ship by postal service or by supported courier (UPS/GLS/SDA)

We reserve the right to separate the contents of an order into different shipments or to merge the contents of different orders in the same shipment to improve the shipment's delivery speed and any required logistics management. If this happens, there will not be any additional cost for you as a customer (nor right to any refund).

Shipments made by courier or by insured the postal service can be tracked and are considered insured.

Shipments made by the postal service are not insured and cannot be traced. While rare it is also possible that a package may be lost (0.1-1%). Insurance option for potal services costs an additional 2-5 Euro depending on the destination.

Courier shipments may take about 3-6 days for EU and US/Canada. Postal service requires about 3-7 weeks for the same locations. Please note that the postal service in the same case can be slow and may suffer several weeks of additional delay. This happens very rarely but it is still a possibility and is out of our control. If you would like a faster deliever or avoid any risk of a long way; pleas use a courier service.

Courier shipment covers against package loss, destruction and package damage. Postal service insurance covers against package loss or destruction. Insurance requires a customer claim when package is delivered, ask to postman.

Please note that we will not reship any game without first having investigated what happened to the first shipment. This can be processed quickly through the courier service option but may require an additional 1-5 weeks through the postal service.

If the game failed to arrive because of your mistake (wrong address, recipient absent, not picking up at courier/postal warehouse, etc.), you will have to pay an additional shipping cost for us to re-send you the game. This cost will also include the return costs of the game. Otherwise, if we made an error, we will send it again to you at our expense. If package is lost or destroyed, we will reship it at our expense only if it was insured.

If you live outside of the European Community; custom's taxes may be added. This usually doesn't happen for boardgames; however, please check your country's legislation as this aspect will not be our responsibility.

We will no longer accept complaints related to this campaign after 12 months from the date of shipment.
