Fief: France 1429 is a new version of the first Fief (from 1981) with upgraded mechanics, better graphic and new components. After all these years it still retains its charm thanks to the ability to empathize with the players in his medieval world.

Fief is a game of dynastic ambition, where players assume the roles of nobles in the 15th century Kingdom of France. Each player strives to become the most powerful ruling force in the Kingdom by gaining control of Fief and Bishopric areas. 

Fief is a language indipendant game for 3-6 players. A play lasts about 150 minutes.

Game overview

The game board represents a portion of the Kingdom of France in the Middle Ages. Villages are connected by roads that allow Lord and Troop movement. The villages are grouped into 8 Fiefs, identified by different colored background. Each village also belongs to one of 5 Bishoprics, identified by heavy border line and numbered between 1-5.
Each village is part of both a Fief and a Bishopric.

Each player controls a family consisting up to 4 noble members, each of which is associated with a card. Family can increases his power by titles to his members. Taking control of a Fief you will receive a title of Baron, Earl or Duke for one of your members; and 1 Victory Point. Each Lord with a Title can vote in King’s elections and respecting some conditions your Lord could became the new King giving you 1 Victory Point and several benefits.

At same way one of your Lord could takes the path of Church and becoming first a Bishop and then a Cardinal. The Cardinal votes in Pope’s elections. The highest goal your clerical family member can attain is to be elected Pope, bringing 1 VP and special privileges to your family!

All Titles are indicated with corresponding tokens placed on your Lord’s card.

Who gets first 3 Victory Points WINS!

This looks more easier said than done!
You may need to form alliances with other players through diplomacy and marriage to obtain your goal. When one of your family members marries a noble of another family, the two of you become allied. You now win the game together with 4 VPs and cannot win alone, unless your marriage is annulled by the Pope or your spouse is 'mysteriously' murdered or dies of some other foul means!   

Then it’s possible to draw event cards. There are Bounty Event cards like ‘Good Harvest’, ‘Good Weather’. But also Disaster Cards that can randomly effect all players in specific Bishoprics. These include 'The Plague', 'Heavy Rain', 'Famine', and 'Peasant Uprisings'! 

Income can be increased by players imposing church tithes on their opponent’s villages or taxing their own Fiefs. Players may purchase new Fief titles, improve their village incomes with mills, and fortify their cities.

Players will also need to protect their land and castles. Men at Arms and Knights can be purchased, as well as Siege Engines.  

Last but not least there are wars! If two opposing armies are in the same village square, a Battle may be initiated. The players count the size and strength of their armies, which determine the number of Battle Dice each may roll.

Each 'f' rolled is a hit. Men at Arms are defeated with one hit, while Knights require three hits to be removed from the battle.  

With wars you can invade other players's territories! But you must risk one of your family members to lead the troops into possible battle, where they might be killed or taken prisoner. Moreover think about your enemies allies and his Troops. Take carefully your choices!

Who is this game for?

Fief is a highly interactive game of diplomacy, alliances, treachery and territories control. Cards and dices introduces some elements of luck that however remains easy to manage; game keeps its focus on strategy and tactics mechanics.

Advised for 3 to 6 'friends' to spend a fun evening together.

When I will receive it?

Shipping is scheduled for Febraury 2015 as soon we will receive the games in our warehouse. We will ship games following the order date. Note: the game release date is approximate and can change.

Shipping costs  

Shipping costs is free to Italy. For other Countries the shipping cost will be shown after clicking "Proceed to checkout” button on the cart. Aproximately the cost to ship a game to European Union/USA/Canada is about 7-10 euro.  

Warning: if you live in a remote place, like an atoll on the Pacific Ocean or a village on the Mount Everest, there will be a supplement on the shipping cost. This aspect will be evaluated at the end of the campaign and the we will ask to you to pay the supplement before to do the shipping. You can check all DHL world remote areas on this link.

Games will be shipped from Italy with DHL. If live out of the European Community, customs taxes could be added. Check your Country legislation.  

We strongly suggest to specify a telephone number in your profile. This helps a lot the game delivery.

If a package is not delivered due to a backer fault (wrong address given, backer didn’t claim the package after courier transit or under courier request, etc), the backer will have to pay additional shipping fees for the item to be sent out again. In that case the shipment cost will include warehousing and shipment-back to us costs.
